CloseFire Lookout Hikes in the Canadian Rockies takes you on fantastic hikes with great views and more. Fire lookouts are natural hiking destinations, offering sweeping panoramas and a captivating human history. Fire lookout hikes grant excellent opportunities to see a wide variety of wildflowers and wildlife, and to enjoy photography. This second edition of Mike Potter's Fire Lookout Hikes in the Canadian Rockies describes 101 hikes to active lookouts and sites of former lookouts.
The area covered is large: from the U.S. border north to Grande Cache in Alberta, and to north of Prince George in British Columbia. New to this edition is a section of 13 hikes in Glacier National Park, Montana (ecologically part of the Canadian Rockies).
Lavishly illustrated with over 135 color photographs and 60 color maps, this book is a unique resource with comprehensive information. A highlight is the Lookouts in Literature appendix.
Mike Potter is the author and photographer of eight books to date on outdoor recreation and natural history in the Canadian Rockies. A former interpretive naturalist with Parks Canada, his hardcover photographic portfolio "Kananaskis Country Colors: Alberta's Rockies Wilderness," was shortlisted for the Canadian Rockies Award at the 2006 Banff Mountain Book Festival. Mike, who lives in Calgary, is also a freelance writer and an editor, and enjoys exploring year-round.
